Using OrbiDNS
Claim a hostname, add records, and automate it.
Getting started
- Create an account and verify your email address.
- Open the Domain explorer, search a label and claim it.
- Open the subdomain and add records in the DNS manager.
- Watch the status: records become active once the DNS provider confirms them.
Record names
Names are relative to your hostname. For john.orbinex.in: @ is john.orbinex.in, www is www.john.orbinex.in, and * is a wildcard for any child. You may also type the full name. Any name outside your hostname is rejected.
Record types
| Type | Purpose | Example | Rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | IPv4 address | 1.2.3.4 | Public addresses only. Can be proxied. |
| AAAA | IPv6 address | 2606:4700::6810:84e5 | Public addresses only. Can be proxied. |
| CNAME | Alias to another hostname | cname.vercel-dns.com | Cannot coexist with other records at the same name. |
| TXT | Free text, 1–2048 chars | v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all | Used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC and verification. |
| MX | Mail server + priority | 10 mx1.example.com | Lower priority is preferred. |
| SRV | Service location | _sip._tcp → 10 5 5060 sip.example.com | Name must be _service._proto. Priority, weight, port, target. |
| CAA | Allowed certificate authorities | 0 issue "letsencrypt.org" | Tags: issue, issuewild, iodef. |
TTL and propagation
TTL is how long resolvers may cache an answer. Choose Auto, or 60 seconds to 1 day. A change is pushed to the authoritative provider in seconds; resolvers that cached the old answer keep it until the previous TTL expires. Use the propagation check in the DNS manager to query public resolvers.
Recipes
Vercel / Netlify / Render
- Add the domain in your host's dashboard.
- Create a CNAME at @ (or www) pointing to the target they show.
- Add any TXT verification record they request.
GitHub Pages
- Set the custom domain in repository settings.
- Create a CNAME at @ pointing to <user>.github.io.
- Enable “Enforce HTTPS” once the certificate is issued.
Email (Google Workspace / Microsoft 365 / Fastmail)
- Add MX records exactly as your provider lists them.
- Add the SPF TXT record at @.
- Add the DKIM TXT record at the selector name, and a DMARC TXT at _dmarc.
Let's Encrypt DNS-01
- Create a TXT record at _acme-challenge with the token.
- Wait until the record is active, then let the client validate.
- Delete the TXT record afterwards.
Delegated namespaces
Some root domains give each hostname its own DNS zone, delegated from the parent with NS records. The subdomain page shows the assigned name servers. The platform manages the zone for you; you still edit records the same way.
Limits
Your plan sets the number of subdomains, records per subdomain, daily API requests and activity history. Current usage is on the Usage page. API keys are additionally limited to 120 requests per minute. See pricing and the API reference.
